Ara Mahar

Licensed Kimono Instructor

Ara has been studying kimono since 2012 both in the US at the Boston Kimono Academy WAGOKORO, and in Japan with the Sodo Kimono Academy (装道礼法きもの学院) and the Association for Promoting the National Costume Culture of Japan (一般財団法人民族衣裳文化普及協会).  After receiving their license to teach, they became a teacher at the Boston Kimono Academy WAGOKORO.  They have participated in various kimono dressing competitions, given lectures about kimono dressing, and hosted private and public kimono classes.

Ara’s passion for traditional Japanese culture runs wide and deep, as they are in involved with various other cultural pursuits including competitive karuta, tea ceremony, and historical research.
